Two Bodies Recovered From Missouri River Near Farm Island

PIERRE — The bodies of two people have been recovered from the Missouri River near Farm Island southeast of Pierre. Hughes County Sheriff Patrick Callahan says a report was received just after 11 PM on Wednesday of two missing individuals last seen fishing at Farm Island. Sheriff’s Deputies and South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Conservation officers began a search of the area. Divers and drones from the Pierre Fire Department Rescue Squad and Hughes/Stanley County Emergency Management were also employed in the search. The missing individuals were recovered a short time later. Callahan says names of the victims are not being released and the incident remains an active investigation. A number of agencies assisted in the effort to recover the victims including the Stanley County Sheriff’s Office, Pierre Police and Fire Departments and A-M-R Ambulance.
