Warm Weekend Leads to Great Fishing for South Dakota Governors Cup

Over the last weekend 156 teams competed in the 47th annual South Dakota Governors Cup. Gerrick McComsey and Max Sheets took home first place this year, dethroning Tyson Keller and Duane Hjelm.

McComsey and Sheets finished with a total weight of 42.43, four pounds better than Travis Sanger and Eric Lindemann for second place. While not winning this year, Keller and Hjelm did finish in third place at near 32 pounds. Sanger and Lindemann caught the biggest fish of the tournament at 10.12.

In total, 1111 fish were caught. The local high plains wildlife association and Ikes helped clean 518 fish on Saturday and several hundred more on Sunday. Those donated fish went to each group plus SD Sportsmen Against Hunger. Game Fish and Parks does not allow Walleye caught in a tournament to be released. A total of 2146.35 pounds were caught in the 2021 Governors Cup.
