Pierre Trappers Salvage Series with Sunday Win

The Pierre Trappers dropped the first two games of the series on the road in Grand Forks to the Wheat City Whiskey Jacks but beat the Whiskey Jacks on Sunday to avoid the sweep, 7-3 and taking three of five games played between Pierre and Grand Forks.

The Trappers scored three runs in the top of the third inning to claim a 4-1 lead over Wheat City from back-to-back doubles by Nick Strong and Garrett Hill. Strong, Hill and Brendon Perez each had two RBIs for the Trappers in its fifth win of the second half of the season and 14th win overall. Brandt Sundeen was outstanding in his start on Sunday going seven innings, allowing just three runs, only one earned, on six hits, five walks and nine strike outs.

The Trappers hit the all-star break, eight games back of the Clark division at 5-12. The Fremont Moo lead the division at 13-4. Monday is the Expedition League home run derby as Pierre’s Colin Adams will go up against the league’s best home run hitters. The All-Star game is scheduled for Tuesday as both events will take place in Casper, Wyoming, the host of this year’s 2021 All Star game.
