Post 8 Sweeps Yankton, Clinches Spot in State Tournament

Pierre Post 8 won both games on Friday and Saturday, rolling Yankton by 10-0 and 14-3 to clinch a spot in the state tournament in Brandon next weekend.

Bennett Dean opened up the scoring in game one with a two run home run in the bottom of the second which plated six runs in total for Pierre. Lincoln Kienholz had an RBI single and Maguire Raske would reach on a four base error on a fly ball to right field to have the Eights up 8-0 after the second. Jack Van Camp was dominant on the mound as he threw a complete game one hit shutout, striking out six for his team leading fifth win of the season. Dean would finish the game off with a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth.

Pierre got the bats going early in game two with a leadoff triple by Lincoln Kienholz and scored by a Jayden Wiebe sacrifice fly. Kienholz would go 5-6 in the game, a home run shy of the cycle while Wiebe went 3-3 and the two combined to reach base in nine of the 11 trips to the plate. Yankton’s Carson Haak doubled in two runs in the bottom of the second to tie the game at 2-2. The Eights responded with a four run fourth inning thanks to a two RBI single from Andy Gordon. Gordon would finish with four RBIs in total for Pierre in the 11 run route. Maguire Raske picked up the win in relief as he went four innings allowing just one run on hit and striking out seven, replacing Isaac Polak who went just two innings allowing two runs. Aaron Booth pitched a scoreless seventh to close out the series sweep and send the Eights to the state tournament next weekend in Brandon.

Post 8 manager, Brian White says it’s a good feeling to clinch a spot in the state tournament…

While Polak didn’t have his best stuff on Saturday, White says with the last couple of outings for Raske and Booth, they become a much more dangerous team…

And White says this state tournament will be excellent baseball without a clear cut favorite…

Post 8 will open the state tournament on Friday against Renner at 5:30. Coverage will begin at 5:10 with all state tournament games for Post 8 to be on KCCR, kccrradio.com and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler and Greg Dean on the call.
