Post 8 Hosts Yankton to Qualify for State Tournament

Pierre finished out the regular season on Wednesday with a 10 run win over Aberdeen as the playoffs begin tonight as the Eights host Yankton in a best-of-three series.

The format is a bit different than last season as Pierre and Yankton will play game one on Friday with games two and three on Saturday. Pierre will be looking to have the home field advantage working for them with a long drive for Yankton. The Eights finished the season at 22-17 and 16-10 against South Dakota opponents placing them in the five seed. Yankton was 17-23 and 7-14 in league play. The two teams have not met since last year’s Region round where the Eights swept Yankton at Hyde Stadium. Pierre has all pitchers available heading into the weekend needing two wins to qualify for the state tournament next weekend. Post 8 Manager Brian White says it’s big to have home field advantage…

White says they used Wednesday to set up their pitching for the weekend…

And White says it comes down to the little things to advance to the state tournament…

Coverage will start at 5:40 on Friday on KCCR, kccrradio.com and on YouTube at KCCR Sports. Game two coverage will begin at 11:40 on Saturday with the “if necessary” game three to follow. Jon Winkler and Greg Dean will have the calls of games.
