Pierre Looking To Establish Rental Unit Registration/Licensing Program

PIERRE — The City of Pierre is looking to implement an inspection and registration program for rental housing in Pierre. Officials, including Pierre Fire Chief Ian Paul have been working on a program to protect tenants and landlords for some time…

Paul says the city is working to partner with the Pierre Housing and Redevelopment Authority on the effort…

Building Official Matt Elberson says the city is not looking to corner landlords…

Public hearings on the proposed program will be held July 8th at 10 am, July 9th at noon and July 12th at 5:30 pm at the River Cities Transit building to take input from interested parties. Fees for the registration of a rental unit are 20-dollars per structure and 15-dollars per unit within a structure. That means a building with four rental units would cost 80-dollars to register.
