Post 8 Loses Heart Breaker in Game One, Rolled in Game Two

Pierre Post 8 had three opportunities to close out game one against Sioux Falls West but fell 8-7 in nine innings before being ten run ruled in the second game 15-5.

Pierre took a 1-0 lead off an error in the top of the third inning before West came back with three runs in the bottom of the third behind three hits. However, the Eights answered right back with a three spot in the fourth inning powered by a Maguire Raske single to reclaim a 4-3 lead. Raske had the only two hits through six innings for Pierre. The Eights held the lead until the tying run came in to score in the bottom of the seventh sending the first game into extra innings. In the top of the eighth Elliot Leif hit the lone extra base hit of the entire game scoring the go ahead run again. Lincoln Kienholz drove in an insurance run but it wasn’t enough as West would again comeback and tie the game in the bottom of the eighth. Bennett Dean hit a sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth to again give the Eights a lead now at 7-6, but it was West tying the game at 7-7 on a wild pitch and a walk off single in the bottom of the ninth from Jamie Legg to beat Post 8 8-7.

The Eights would open up a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning in game two but a nine run bottom of the first for West sprung a 15-5 win in five innings to sweep the Eights securing a spot over Pierre in the standings heading into the final week of Legion play. The Eights were out hit in the second game 8-7 and combined for eight walks along with three hit batters to doom them in the second game.

Pierre is now at 20-15 on the year and will head to the Gopher Classic over the weekend. Pierre will now play at 4:30 and 7:00 on both Friday and Saturday along with a 9:00 start on Sunday.  You can listen to the games on KCCR, kccrradio.com and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler and Greg Dean on the call.
