Area First Responders To Practice Responding To An Active Shooter Thursday Night

PIERRE — Pierre/Fort Pierre first responders will be conducting a full scale active shooter exercise at Georgia Morse Middle School Thursday night. Hughes/Stanley County Emergency Manager Rob Fines says full scale exercises are conducted at least once a year…

Fines says it’s important that the public, much like during an actual event, give the participating agencies space to work…

With so many different agencies in the Pierre/Fort Pierre area Fines says an exercise can help responders with coordination and communication…

Dispatchers with Central South Dakota Communications will take part in the exercise along with Avera St. Mary’s Hospital and A-M-R Ambulance. They will be starting radio communications with notifications that the radio traffic is not a real event. The exercise should take around three hours to complete.
