Missouri River/Lake Sharpe Clean Up Taking Place Wednesday Night

PIERRE — The Izaak Walton League will be back at it, cleaning up the shores of Lake Sharpe on the Missouri River Wednesday. The annual Missouri River/Lake Sharpe clean-up was cancelled last year due to concerns over Covid-19. Paul Lepisto with the Izaak Walton League in Pierre says safety precautions for the pandemic will be in place…

Lepisto is hopeful people will still volunteer to help even without the thank you meal. With the event not being held last year Lepisto isn’t sure if they will recover more trash than usual…

Lepisto says for those wanting to volunteer, it’s simple…

Since 2009 nearly 21 tons of garbage and debris has been cleared from Lake Sharpe by over 700 volunteers. The clean-up is coordinated by the Izaak Walton League, South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks, U-S Fish and Wildlife Service, the Army Corps of Engineers and the Cities of Pierre and Fort Pierre.
