Multiple Fire Departments Aid Blunt Firefighters With Thursday Grassfire

BLUNT — Multiple fire departments from central South Dakota provided mutual aid to the Blunt Rural Fire Department Thursday afternoon as a grass fire raged across the rugged terrain of Hughes County, south of Blunt. In a post on the Department’s Facebook page the fire was reported around 2:15 PM between 306th Avenue and Rapid City, Pierre and Eastern railroad tracks. The fire burned some 215 acres and was contained around six PM. Fire departments from Onida, Harrold, Highmore, Pierre Rural, U-S Forest Service Grasslands, Fort Pierre, Dusty Acres, Raber, Big Bend and DeGray assisted along with the Highway Patrol and Hughes County Sheriff. A number of private entities assisted including C-H-S, Cone Ag, Sperry Farms, Leesman Farms and Korkow Ranch. Hughes/Stanley County Emergency Management also responded to the fire.
