Two Arrested Following Friday Crash In Pierre

PIERRE — Pierre police are investigation a Friday night crash that resulted in two people being arrested. Pierre Police Captain Bryan Walz says a vehicle driven by 24 year-old Erika Wounded Knee failed to yield after stopping at a stop sign on Mac Lane and started turning west onto Sioux Avenue. Wounded Knee was struck by a vehicle driving eastbound on Sioux driven by 18 year-old Kenadi Rising of Rapid City. Walz says witnesses to the crash noted to investigating officers the vehicle driven by Rising appeared to be speeding and was traveling without its headlights on. Wounded Knee and a passenger in Rising’s vehicle were taken to Avera St. Mary’s Hospital. Rising was arrested for Driving Under the Influence, Underage Consumption and Open Container. A passenger in Rising’s vehicle, 18 year-old Chelsie Vickerman was also cited for Underage Consumption. Additional information about the crash may be released Monday.
