The Sioux Falls Sunfish scored five runs over the final two innings and they held on to beat the Pierre Trappers at Hyde Stadium on Thursday, 6-5, to salvage the three game set with two games in Sioux Falls and one in Pierre.
After winning back-to-back games, the Trappers took an early lead in the bottom of the second 1-0 on a Ty Stauss RBI sacrifice fly. After the Sunfish answered in the top of the second, a wild pitch scored Kaiden Cardoso giving the Trappers the lead back which they held on to until the eighth inning when the Sunfish scored twice to tie the game at 3-3. A three run top of the ninth gave the Sunfish at 6-3 lead. A two out error in the bottom of the ninth scored two runs and Cardoso was left stranded in scoring position to end the ballgame. The Trappers fall to 8-16 while the Sunfish improve to 11-14.
Pierre will face the Wheat City Whiskey Jacks over the weekend as they face off for the first time since 2019. First pitch on Friday and Saturday is at 7:05 with a 5:35 start on Sunday, all at Hyde Stadium.
