Post 8 Baseball Finishes 3-2 in the Dakota Classic

Post 8 Baseball finished in the top eight of the Dakota Classic over the weekend in Sioux Falls winning the Sioux Falls West pool but falling in the quarterfinal against Shakopee.

The Eights went down 5-1 Friday night in the first game against Wayzata, Minnesota but scored 18 straight runs on 21 hits to win 19-5 along with a complete game from Bennett Dean. The Eights would carry the moment into Saturday with a 6-4 win over Norfolk, Nebraska as Jackson Edman secured his first win in his first start with the senior legion team and Andy Gordon picked up the save. Pierre would clinch the pool by shutting out Sioux Falls West 5-0 behind another outstanding outing from Isaac Polak as he was just an out a way from a second consecutive complete game shutout before he exceeded the pitch count.

On Sunday, the Eights opened up the day with a 4-3 eight inning loss to Jackson, Minnesota to finish pool play at 3-1 and head over to Harrisburg to face Shakopee, Minnesota. Shakopee hit the ball all over the field and used the wind to their advantage as they scored nine runs on nine hits and quickly beat the Eights 9-0 in five innings ending Pierre’s tournament.

Assistant Coach Nathan Naasz says all around it was a good weekend for Pierre…

It was the first time Pierre did not play against a South Dakota team this season and Naasz says it was a chance to change things up and see what new things can work…

And Naasz says Excelsior on Tuesday will be tough…

It will be a one, seven inning game on Tuesday now for Pierre and Excelsior, Minnesota beginning with first pitch at 5:00. You can listen to the game on KCCR, kccrradio.com and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler and Greg Dean on the call.
