Streaking Eights Sweep Renner 2

Pierre Post 8 would up its winning streak to five as they swept Renner on Saturday 2-1 and 11-1 in doubleheader action at Hyde Stadium in Pierre.

Bennett Dean finished a complete game in game one allowing one run on five hits, three walks and striking out five Renner batters. He worked around an error in the first and second inning to keep the game scoreless. Garrett Hoffman would hit a sacrifice fly in the top of the fourth to take a 1-0 lead but a lead-off single by Matt Hanson followed by a double from Jayden Wiebe put runners on second and third with nobody out. Jack Merkwan and Gary Nedved each had an RBI ground out to put the Eights up 2-1 and it was all Dean needed to finish out the win.

Jett Zabel had his first start at the senior legion level of his career in game two and he went five innings allowing an unearned run on four hits, three walks and three strikeouts picking up his first win. Post 8 received a two out error in the bottom of the second inning to keep the inning alive and Andy Gordon made Renner pay with a three run double giving the Eights a 4-1 lead which they would never relinquish. Gordon finished with four RBI in the second game win as Pierre rallied for four more runs in the bottom of the sixth to finish the doubleheader sweep.

Assistant Coach Nathan Naasz says it was a great pitching performance all day, especially in game one…

Naasz says pitching wise, keeping the walks down was key…

And Naasz he doesn’t know a whole lot about the next two opponents, Sturgis and Aberdeen but expects them to both be tough starting with Sturgis…

Pierre is now 7-5 on the season and will face Aberdeen and Sturgis in a triangular on Tuesday. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 2:30 followed by the Eights facing Sturgis at 7:00. Both games will be on KCCR, todayskccr.com and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler and Greg Dean on the call.
