SkyWest Tells Pierre It Intends To Continue Air Service After June 30th From Pierre

PIERRE — Pierre may have two airlines operating at least for a short time. Rumors have swirled about SkyWest continuing to service Pierre and Watertown after July 1st, the day Denver Air Connection is supposed to assume the Essential Air Service contract to service Pierre. Airport Liaison to the Pierre City Commission Jamie Huizenga says Denver Air Connection is supposed to move into Pierre Regional Airport at the end of the month…

Huizenga read a brief statement from SkyWest during the Pierre City Commission meeting Tuesday night…

Huizenga says it’s an interesting development in a long drawn out E-A-S saga…

If SkyWest continues to serve Pierre after June 30th the United Express carrier would be doing so “at risk” meaning they would be assuming all possible liability of financial loss without the benefit of a federal E-A-S subsidy. Denver Air Connection has moved no equipment into Pierre for the switch, but has been advertising for filing positions.
