PIERRE — Voter turnout hit the mid-20’s Tuesday for the combined Pierre City Commission/Pierre School Board election. Turnout was 28-percent on the city side where Jamie Huizenga will retain his seat on the Pierre City Commission. However it was Todd Johnson who gathered the most support. Johnson picked up 896 votes with Huizenga receiving 883. Lucas Solberg finished third in the two seat race with 555 votes and Amy Currie gathered 389 votes. Of 9,651 registered voters, 1079 actually cast a ballot. On the School Board side the Board will remain the same as incumbents Randy Hartmann and Dennis James retained their seats. Hartman got 377 votes while James pulled in 354. Third in the race was Lindsay Strohfus with 242. Bree Oatman was fourth with 144 votes and Paul Giovanetti finished fifth with 133 votes. Johnson won 32-percent of the vote to replace Jim Mehlhaff on the Pierre City Commission, who was not seeking re-election. Huizenga pull 30-percent. In the Pierre School Board race Hartmann got 30-percent while James received 28-percent.
