State Golf Wraps Up Day One

Throughout the state, Class AA, Class A and Class B boys and girls competed in day one of the two day golf state tournament as athletes from Pierre, Sully Buttes and Stanley County had strong showings.

Pierre

The Pierre Governor golf team sits in 13th place after day one as Madilyn Brakke leads the team at a 14 over, 85 which is tied for 19th place. Brakke was solid through the first day parring eight holes to stay inside the top 20 heading into the final day of competition. Haley Nadeau shot an 88 while Ellie Jo Simpson was at 91, although she hit the lone birdie of the day, chipping in on a par-3 hole eight. Andrea Mosteller rounds out the four for the Governors at a 105. Reese Jansa from Harrisburg is under par leading the AA tournament after the first day.

Sully Buttes

The Sully Buttes Chargers have two separate locations as Olivia Olsen was at the Edgebrook Golf Course in Brookings as she shot a 95 and is tied for 26th after the first day of competition. Olsen parred four holes on the day and is only five shots out of the top ten heading into the second day. Kaylee Johnson and Greta Anderson from Estelline/Hendricks and Bison are tied for first, both shooting 10 over par, 80. On the boys side, Gavin Colson is just seven shots out of the top ten as he sits with plus-16, 88 after day one. Garrett Peterson shot a 101 for the Chargers.

Stanley County

Daysen Titze, for the Stanley County Buffaloes finished the first day 18 over par, 90 which is tied for 43rd in the Class B state tournament. Titze had two great holes sending a birdie in on the second hole and finishing an Eagle on a par four at hole eight. Lathan Prince ended day one shooting 100 for the Buffs. Prince birdied hole one at the Brookings Country Club to start his day.
