Post 8 Baseball Splits with Brookings

Pierre Post 8 split a doubleheader on Thursday at home against the Brookings Bandits to keep its record at .500 with a 13-7 loss and a 10-6 win.

In game one Pierre struck for three first inning runs using three Brookings errors. However, walks in the second inning allowed the Bandits to take the lead with a two out, three RBI single for Cole Mahlum followed by a three run homer by Jamison Honkomp to give the Bandits a 7-3 lead after two innings. Although Pierre would outhit Brookings in the game 13-11, the walks mounted and the timely hits weren’t there for the Eights falling in the first game.

Isaac Polak threw three shutout innings and the Eights would roll through the order in the first inning scoring six times and adding another run in the second to quickly lead 7-0 after two innings. Brookings chipped away at the lead but a three run fifth inning sealed the win for the Eights. Maguire Raske had four RBIs in the doubleheader as Jayden Wiebe finished with three. Polak threw six innings allowing six runs, five earned on eight hits, three walks and striking out seven Bandits. Lincoln Kienholz struck out two of the three batters he faced in the seventh inning.

Nathan Nassz, assistant coach of Post 8 says it was just one bad inning keeping them from a sweep of Brookings…

Naasz says it is good to see the aggression at the plate for the Eights…

And Naasz says he was impressed with Polak’s outing…

Post 8 will play again on Sunday at home against Sioux Falls East. First pitch of the doubleheader is at 1:00 with pregame beginning at 12:40 on Today’s KCCR, todayskccr.com and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler and Greg Dean on the call.
