Treatments last for about a year, but because of the way curly pondweed can grow, it will not kill off all of the aquatic greenery. The chemical used to treat for curly pondweed is not toxic to humans and pets however the city is required to get a permit from the State of South Dakota to treat for it. A second treatment of Lake Sharpe around Pierre is planned for Thursday.
