Eagle Butte Man Convicted Of Meth Possession

PIERRE — An Eagle Butte man has been found guilty by a federal jury of possessing methamphetamine. Acting U-S Attorney Dennis Holmes says 42 year-old Anthony Story was convicted of Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance. A two-day trial was held in Pierre last week. Story was indicted by a federal grand jury in August of 2020. A jury determined that Story had in his possession 37 grams of methamphetamine with intent to distribute it. Story was arrested in a while sleeping in camper in Eagle Butte. Next to Story was a light bulb that was fashioned into a pipe, a small bag of meth and a digital scale. Law enforcement stumbled upon Story and the meth while looking for another person. The bags holding the meth were tested at the South Dakota Forensic Lab and were found to have Story’s DNA on them. Story could face 20 years in federal prison, a one-million dollar fine and probation for life. Sentencing for Story is August 2nd.
