Governors in Seventh Place after Day One

The Pierre Governors have six of the nine flights still in play heading into Tuesday as the team sits in seventh place in the Class A State Tournament in Sioux Falls.

For the Governors in singles matches, Luke Leingang keeps his championship hopes alive in Flight 3 as he’s the top overall seed and won his first round matchup. He’ll face Mitchell’s Aiden Park, the four seed in the semifinals Tuesday morning. In Singles Flight 1, 2 and 4 the Governors can still take home the consolation championship as Matt Hanson, Blake Judson and Spencer Kelly all advanced to the consolation semifinals. Hanson, in Flight 1, won his first match before falling in the quarterfinals but received a bye into the consolation semifinals. Both Judson and Kelly won in the first round match but fell in the quarterfinals. Both guys won 10-0 in the consolation quarterfinals to reach the second day. Both Josh Ryckman and Carter Schulz were eliminated in the consolation quarterfinals in the fifth and sixth flights.

In the doubles competition, Kelly and Leingang in flight 2 are into the championship semifinals as they will face the Sioux Falls Christian team who is seeded seconded. Hanson and Judson won its first match but fell in the championship quarterfinals and came back to win in the consolation bracket to remain in contention for the consolation championship. Jacob Mayer and Denton Beck in flight 3 also made the consolation semifinals going 2-1 on the day.

The second day begins at 8:00 AM on Tuesday.
