The Pierre Governor Tennis Team had tough first round matches on Tuesday in the ESD Tournament in Harrisburg as Pierre finished in seventh place as a team.
For the singles matches, Luke Leingang was the only winner in the first round matches but was upset in the semifinals placing third in Singles Flight 3. Matthew Hanson and Blake Judson in Singles Flight 1 and 2 were both able to win their consolation semifinal match but unable to take the consolation championship in their respective flights.
However, in doubles, both Hanson and Judson in Flight 1 and Leingang and Spencer Kelly in Flight 2 advanced to the semifinals with a first round win where they both placed third for the Governors. Overall the Governors finished with a 104.5 as a team score. Brandon Valley was first with a 275 as Huron came in second with a 201.5.
The Governors will be back in the Sioux Falls area on Monday and Tuesday next week for the Class A State Tournament.
