Tennis Goes 2-1 in Duals on Thursday, Begins Tournament on Friday

The Pierre Governor Tennis team beat both Lennox and St. Thomas More by the score of 6-3 on Thursday but fell 5-4 to Rapid City Christian in its first dual of the day as the Govs went 2-1 overall before Friday’s tournament.

Luke Leingang went 6-0 on the day winning in all three singles and doubles matches while his doubles two partner, Spencer Kelly went 5-0 on the day winning both of his singles matches. Pierre lost two of its five matches to Rapid City Christian 10-8 nearly swinging the dual in their favor. Matt Hanson and Blake Judson, Doubles 1 partners both went 4-2 overall on the day with a 2-1 record in both singles and doubles. The three losses in the St. Thomas More matches were actually to Watertown opponents as Pierre needed a couple of more ESD matches in for the season and St. Thomas More did not have Singles 5 and 6 and Doubles 1 in Pierre on Thursday.

Head Coach of the Pierre Governors, Steve Steele says a lot of the matches were competitive which were good to see…

Steele is really glad to be able to have this tournament even though it’s not entirely how they planned it…

And Steele says it’s very important to have a strong tournament on Friday for multiple reasons…
