Governor Bats Go Cold, Swept by Roosevelt Friday

The Pierre Governor baseball was unable to get the bats rolling on Friday losing to Roosevelt in a doubleheader sweep 5-2 and 7-0.

Pierre took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first in game one thanks to two Roosevelt errors in the inning but a quick answer for the Roughriders in the bottom of the first tied the game at 1-1 before Roosevelt took the lead in the bottom of the third. Maguire Raske tied the game in the top of the sixth with an RBI single as Raske recorded two of the seven total hits in both games. However, in the bottom of the sixth three walks in the inning and a double doomed the Govs as Roosevelt took a 5-2 lead and Charlie Jensen finished his complete game for the Roughriders in the first game win.

In game two, Roosevelt, with the help of Marcus Phillips again had a first inning RBI to get the first run and a 3-0 lead after one. Pierre’s first hit was in the third from Elliot Leif but he was left stranded at second. Pierre would only add one more hit in the game in the top of seventh in the 7-0 shutout loss. The Govs allowed 15 plus walks and hit batters in the two games.

Pierre is in Sioux Falls on Saturday to face Yankton and O’Gorman. First pitch is at 3:00 against Yankton followed by O’Gorman. Both games on Today’s KCCR, todayskccr.com and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler and Greg Dean on the call.
