Goals from Oahe’s Berndt and Griese Propel Team SD to Opening Game Win

Although Team South Dakota Boys 16U were outshot in the game, they were effective on their shots. Team SD ran through the Park City, Utah Ice Miners 9-4 in the opening game of the National Tournament in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

A pair of goals from a pair of Oahe Capitals teammates as Dre Berndt and Ashton Griese both scored in the win. Griese finished with a goal and assist in the game. Team SD scored nine times with nine different goal scorers to bring a lot of momentum into game two against the Atlanta Fire, who wiped out the Delaware Ducks 8-0 behind 72 shots on goal. Coach Curtis Egan will want his team to be more discipline heading into the second game, scheduled for 10:15 on Friday. A win on Friday or Saturday could put them into the semifinals on Sunday.
