Two teams from South Dakota make the journey to Denver this weekend as Team South Dakota competes in the National Tournaments in the Tier II division of both 19U and 16U.
Three Oahe Capitals will be skating for Team SD. Ashton Lee will suit for the 19U team. Lee’s played on the boys team for the last two seasons and has dealt with several injuries along the way but is ready to go for the tournament in Denver.
On the 16U team, Capital teammates Olivia Swenson and Sara Bierne will skate for Team SD. Swenson and Bierne scored over half of the Oahe Capitals goals in the 2020-2021 season as Swenson had 10 and Bierne with five.
For 16U, Team SD will open the tournament on Thursday, April 29 at 9:15 AM against Central New York Bobcats. On Friday, Team SD will face the New Jersey Colonials at 6:40 and on Saturday against the Colorado Lady Roughriders at 12:40.
The 19U team will first face the San Diego Angels at 3:15 on Thursday following with the Philadelphia Jr. Flyers on Friday at 11:00 AM and finishing the Round Robin portion on Saturday against Florida Alliance at 6:40.
Both tournaments have 12 teams with eight advancing to quarterfinals on Sunday along with the Semifinals and the championship game at 10:15 on Monday for the 16U and 11:15 for 19U.
