Pierre, Sully Buttes and Stanley County all Compete in Legion Relays

18 teams gathered in Pierre on Friday for the American Legion Relays hosted by the Pierre Governor Track and Field team. Among the 18 were Pierre, Sully Buttes and Stanley County.

For the Pierre Governors, Jessica Lutmer finished in second in the 1600 run and third in the 800 meter run on the girls side while Hayden Shaffer won the boys 3200 meter with a time of 10:13:88 and also placed fourth in the 1600 meter run. Elsewhere in the running events for the Governors, Josh Strand had a top five finish in the 400 meter run, Jack Merkwan was sixth in the 110 meter hurdles and Cole Peterson was seventh in the 100 meter dash.

Also for the Governors, Lincoln Kienholz won the high jump at 6-4 and was third in the long jump. Regan Bollweg finished in second in the discus right in front Blake Wagner who was third and Canyon Jones was third in the pole vault. For the girls in the field events, Marissa Matthews was third in the pole vault while Maya Shorter was third in the discus. Reese Terwilliger was sixth in the shot put for the Governors and Remi Price was sixth in the triple jump.

For the Sully Buttes Chargers, Stevie Wittler again was impressive finishing third in the 100 meter hurdles and sixth in the 300 meter hurdles. Jesse Schall was sixth in the shot put for the Chargers. Sully Buttes was the only B school at the event on Friday.

The Stanley County Buffaloes had an event winner with Tracy Nielson again winning the discus as he threw a 138-04 which set a personal record for the Buffalo.
