Pierre Baseball Sweeps Brookings behind Clutch Hitting and Solid Pitching

The Pierre Governors and Brookings Bobcats both had great pitching in its doubleheader as a total of four runs scored in two games but the Pierre Governors won both 2-1 and 1-0.

Lincoln Kienholz was exceptional in his start for Pierre as he went six innings allowing just one run to score including striking out 10 batters and only two walks on three hits. Jayden Wiebe came up with the biggest hit in game one with a two out, two RBI double to give Pierre a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth. Wiebe went 2-3 in game one. Isaac Polak recorded the save in the top of the seventh to preserve the win for Pierre.

In game two, Aaron Booth didn’t have his best stuff but still went three and third of shutout baseball allowing Bennett Dean to come in put more zeros on the board. He matched every bit of what Kyle Bauer, the Brookings starter, did in the seven innings on the mound. Heading to extras, the Govs got a zero again in the top of the eighth and after the bases were loaded, Dean came up to the plate with two outs to be the hero not only on the mound but at the plate…

Dean says he was happy to get the walk off hit with a little bit of help…

Dean says Gordon, who was the catcher in game two, was also a huge help on the mound…

And Dean says you can’t overlook the two wins against Brookings…

The Governors have now won five in a row and are 10-2 on the season. They play four games in Sioux Falls next weekend starting with Roosevelt on Friday. First pitch of the doubleheader will be at 5:00 on Today’s KCCR, todayskccr.com and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler and Greg Dean on the call.
