Pierre Baseball Earns Split in Harrisburg Doubleheader

The Pierre Governor baseball team is the first team this year to beat the Harrisburg Tigers as they won the second game of the doubleheader 8-5 after losing the first game 10-0.

In game one, Pierre went down 2-0 in the first inning but Isaac Polak battled to get zeros on the board for the next couple of innings and to keep the Govs close. However, a three run, bases clearing triple in the bottom of the fifth opened up the ballgame for the Tigers and Pierre couldn’t find an answer and was shutout for the second straight game. The Govs accumulated on three hits, the lowest of the season in a game,

In game two, the bats started to fire up and the Govs were able to go up 5-0 after the top of the second behind a four spot. The Tigers had three errors in the game and Pierre only had two RBI, both from Andy Gordon on a fielder’s choice. Jayden Wiebe went 3-4 at the plate while Bennett Dean went 2-3 with two doubles, the first extra base hits since the opening weekend for Pierre and scored both times he doubled. Aaron Booth picked up the win on the mound throwing four innings, allowing just one earned run with six strikeouts. Dean had the five out save for Pierre allowing only one base runner.

Pierre will quickly be back in action as they face the Huron Tigers in a doubleheader on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 on Today’s KCCR, todayskccr.com and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler and Greg Dean on the call.
