Tennis Splits in First Matches of Season

The Pierre Tennis team were able to split the triangular at Griffin Park on Thursday as they fell to Mitchell 8-1 in the first matches of the day but came back to beat Rapid City Central by the same score of 8-1.

The Governors won just one singles match over Mitchell as Luke Leingang was successful in winning his first match of the season and nearly winning in doubles as both the top two doubles flights went to a tiebreaker as Matt Hanson and Blake Judson in flight one along with Leingang and Spencer Kelly in flight two fell in a third set tiebreaker. Both teams came back to win over Central to close out the day. Leingang went 2-0 in singles and 3-1 overall for the day, the best finish for any Governor.

Head Coach of the Governors, Steve Steele says you could see the nerves against Mitchell…

Steele says with how tough Mitchell will be this year, he says it was good to have a measuring stick for the players…

You can see a full list of the results below. The Governors will be in Huron on Saturday for a Quad beginning at 10:00 AM.
