Pierre Woman Arrested On Multiple Charges Following Monday Hit And Run Crash

PIERRE — A Pierre woman is arrested Monday on several charges connected to a hit and run crash. Pierre Police Department Captain Bryan Walz says police received a hit and run call around 2:30 pm in the area of Sioux and Poplar Avenues. Officers learned a vehicle had failed to yield at the intersection and crashed. The driver, identified by police as 42 year-old Jennifer Big Eagle, fled the scene before law enforcement arrived. Officers located the suspect vehicle about an hour later being driven by Big Eagle, pulling into a business in the 100 block of West Sioux Avenue. As police investigated further Big Eagle was arrested for driving under the influence. When police got the Hughes County Jail, Big Eagle resisted officer’s attempts to remove her from the patrol vehicle and kicked a corrections officer in the process. Big Eagle is being held on charges of Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Failure to Yield, Driving While Revoked, Third Offense D-U-I, Obstructing A Jailer and Simple Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer.
