PIERRE — The Hughes County Commission is meeting tonight at the Hughes County Courthouse. Commissioners will make a Purple Heart County Designation in special business before holding a public hearing on a variance request. New business includes consideration of a bridge grant and GIS proposal, a property tax abatement and potential tax deed properties. Three planning and zoning matters will come before the Commission. They include first readings of two rezoning proposals and an amendment to an ordinance on permit fees. Commissioners will also consider personnel matters, declaring a Second Amendment Sanctuary County, a mosquito management agreement, a courthouse mower, reports and the claims. An executive session for Care of the Poor and HIPPA is on the agenda. The meeting starts at 5:30 pm.
