Pierre Man Arrested After Admitting To Possessing Stolen Vehicle

PIERRE — A Pierre man is arrested after police found him in the possession of a stolen vehicle. Captain Bryan Walz with the Pierre Police Department says officers received a tip regarding a stolen vehicle being located in the 900 block of Preston Place around 11:30 Monday night. Walz says officers found the vehicle then made contact with 43 year-old David White, Jr. of Pierre. White was located in a nearby residence. As officers investigated, White admitted to driving the stolen vehicle to the location on Preston Place. Walz says the police reports indicate he was only in possession of the vehicle and did not indicate he stole the vehicle.  He was taken into custody and transported to the Hughes County Jail on two charges, possession of a stolen vehicle and driving on a suspended license. Driving on a suspended license is a Class Two misdemeanor while possession of a stolen vehicle is a Class Five felony. A Class Five felony carries a maximum possible penalty of five years in prison and a 10-thousand dollar fine.
