Pierre Football Rolls Past Aberdeen for Opening Season Win

The Pierre Governor football team stormed out to a 34 point halftime lead in its opening season win over the Aberdeen Central Golden Eagles 54-15 Saturday night at Hollister Field.

Lincoln Kienholz was dominant again as the Washington commit threw for over 400 yards and six touchdowns, three to Jack Merkwan and three to Jett Zabel. Kienholz also ran in a score from six yards out as the Governors had just two possessions where they didn’t score on the evening. Both Merkwan and Zabel were nearing the 200 yard receiving mark as Zabel caught a game high 13 passes. Jayden Wiebe returned a kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown as the Governors were able to score immediately both times after Aberdeen had scored. Pierre’s defense allowed just two big plays all night and had three sacks in the win.

The Governors will take on Brookings on the road on Friday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 from Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium with coverage at 6:30 on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler on the call.
