Pierre Looking To Use Missouri River Water To Irrigate Griffin Park

PIERRE — The Pierre City Commission has approved a request to seek bids on a project that would bring Missouri River water into Griffin Park for irrigation. City of Pierre Project Manager Gidget Palmer says the system would start near the Down’s Marina boat ramp…

The project would involve a number of pipe borings underground…

The project has been budgeted for 2022. Mayor Steve Harding say such a system has been proposed for years…

Harding says the city wants to use Missouri River water spurred off from the intake line to the new drinking water treatment plant to irrigate Steamboat Park in the future. The Griffin Park irrigation system will use chemicals, a stainless steel screen and an air burst system to try and prevent the establishment of zebra mussels on the intake pipe in the River.
