State Golf Concludes on Tuesday

Tuesday wrapped up the state golf tournament and also wrapped up the 2020-2021 high school sports year. Pierre, Sully Buttes and Stanley County finish its season on a high note.

Pierre

The Pierre Governors finished in tenth place as a team for the 2021 tournament as they collected a team score of 727, finishing three strokes ahead of Brookings and finishing the second day 15 shots better as a team.

Pierre was led by Madilyn Brakke finishing in 18th place with a plus-26. It was just eight shots behind a top ten finish for the tournament. Brakke was two shots better in the second day. Ellie Jo Simpson was in 29th for the tournament but shaved 11 strokes off day one to two. Haley Nadeau was a spot behind Simpson just one shot behind as she shot an 88 both days in Sioux Falls. Andrea Mosteller took another two strokes off her score shooting a 103 on Tuesday. Hattie Baldwin and Hadley Hart, who didn’t factor into the team scoring still took strokes off their game as Baldwin was eight shots better on the second day as was Hart. All six Governors were either right at the same score if not considerably better on Tuesday than on Monday. Reese Jansa from Harrisburg set a new state record being 8-under par winning the state championship by 11 strokes over Shannon McCormick of O’Gorman.

Sully Buttes

Olivia Olsen finished her first state tournament in 33rd place shooting a 96, just one more shot than Monday to round at plus-51 for the two day tournament. Olsen, an eighth grader, was just five shots behind a top 20 finish in the Class B Girls tournament at the Edgebrook Golf Course in Brookings. Miller’s Jayce Pugh won the event shooting an 18 over par over the course of two days.

On the boys side, Gavin Colson completed his second day with a 95, ending tied for 53rd place in his first state tournament. Garrett Peterson was 83rd finishing the second day seven shots better with a 94. Brody Boltjes of Platte Geddes won the Class B boys tournament with an 8 over par performance.

Stanley County

The two Stanley County participants finished middle of the pack as Daysen Titze was part of the tie for 53rd along with Sully Buttes’ Colson. Titze finished with a 93 on the afternoon while Lathan Prince was 89th as he improved his score by shaving off two strokes on his score card to close out the year.
