Tonight, the Pierre Governors look to reach the state title game for the tenth consecutive year as the Govs host the Sturgis Scoopers in the 11AA semifinal.
The two teams are meeting for the second time this season and for one of these teams, they will start and end their season against the other. Pierre beat Sturgis 42-6 on the first Saturday of the season and the 10-0 Governors want to do the same again tonight. However, after a 1-3 start by the Scoopers, Sturgis has rattled off six straight wins including the 21-14 upset win over the Tea Area Titans last week. Zhoel Irion ran for 176 yards and two touchdowns as he’s emerged as one of the premier running backs in the state nearly eclipsing 1000 yards. Steve Steele, head coach of the Pierre Governors says the run game has really exceled since the first meeting…
The Governor offense has not slowed down all season. The Govs are averaging nearly 500 yards of offense every single game this season and have been held to under 40 points just once this season with the 38-17 win over Tea. Steele says the offense needs to keep understanding to take what the defense is giving…
Steele says one of the biggest keys is for the Govs to stay efficient again tonight…
Coverage of the state semifinal begins at 6:30 with a 7:00 kickoff from Hollister Field in Pierre on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler on the call.
