As the football season heads into the state semifinals on Friday, All-Conference teams are being released and the Pierre Governors received eight players on the 11AA All-ESD team.
On the offensive side, Pierre would get five players starting with the quarterback, junior Jerren Deal. Deal has thrown for over 2400 yards with 29 touchdowns and one interception heading into the semifinal game against Sturgis. He’s also second on the team in rushing at 641 yards and eight touchdowns. Porter Hunsley joins him in the backfield as the junior has 17 touchdowns on the ground leading the team in rushing with 740 yards. He also has three touchdown receptions and over 100 yards receiving. Carter Schiefelbein and Cooper Terwilliger are a wide receiver and tight end on the All-ESD team as the seniors lead the team in receiving with over 800 yards for Schiefelbein and 11 touchdowns while Terwilliger has over 500 yards and three touchdowns. He’s also scored three times on the ground. Senior Spencer Olivier is the lone lineman for the Governors as the offensive line has helped lead the Governors to a now 10-0 record and nearly 5,000 yards of offense in 10 games.
Defensively, starting with the line, Max Schmitz gets recognition to be on this year’s team as the senior has the team lead in five sacks with 10 tackles for loss and 38 total tackles. He’s joined by Will Eilers out of the linebacking core who leads the team in tackles with 78 through 10 games four tackles for loss. The other senior, Sutton Sonnenschein as a defensive back has two interceptions and a fumble recovery for the Governors and is fifth on the team in tackles with a total of 40 with a tackle for loss. The Governor defense is averaging only 11 points per game against heading into the state semifinal.
