PIERRE, (KCCR) — A Fort Thompson man will spend time in federal prison for assaulting a federal Tribal police officer. U-S Attorney Ron Parsons says 34 year-old Patrick Wind was convicted last week following a two-day trial in Pierre of Assaulting, Resisting and Impeding a Federal Officer. Wind was indicted on the charge by a federal grand jury in August 2025. Parsons says the assault took place in Lower Brule on May 14th of 2025. A Bureau of Indian Affairs law enforcement responded to a call for service in Fort Thompson to remove Wind from a home. The officer located Wind inside the residence and transported him to the jail in Lower Brule. It was at the jail where Wind became combative with the officer and assaulted the officer by headbutting and kicking the officer. A presentence investigation was ordered, but a sentencing date has not been determined. Wind is in the custody of the U-S Marshals Service pending sentencing.
