PIERRE, (KCCR) — An Eagle Butte man has been sentenced for assaulting a Tribal police officer. U-S Attorney Ron Parsons says 48 year-old Philip Lamar Nordvold was sentenced Monday by U-S District Judge Eric Schulte to 16 months in 28 months in federal prison. The sentence includes three years of supervised release and a special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Nordvold was indicted by a federal grand jury in January and pleaded guilty to the charge of Sensuality, Resisting and Impeding a Federal Officer in July. Parsons says on May 15th of 2025 a Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement officer made contact with Nordvold to arrest him on an outstanding warrant. Nordvold resisted the officer’s effort by holding a knife above his head and yelling out that he was not going back to jail. Nordvold eventually dropped the knife and was taken into custody. Following sentencing he was placed in the custody of the U-S Marshals Service.
