The Pierre Governor volleyball team couldn’t sustain the pressure on two top five teams in AA on the weekend falling to both O’Gorman and Lincoln in three set matches.
Starting on Friday, the Govs would fall 25-10, 25-22 and 25-11 at home on Dig Pink night. The Govs second set, while trailing throughout, played its best of the season keeping with O’Gorman and forcing the set to go deep as the Govs produced 22 points having nine kills in the set along with three aces. However, the Knights were just too much to handle and took the second set. OG used a 16-0 run in the first set to dominate the Govs and finished out the sweep in the third set. Creighton commit, Ruthie Robinson had a match high 12 kills while Lola Schoenwald had eight. Ellie Olivier and Hannah Eads led Pierre with three kills each with 14 on the night.
The Govs had to get on the bus at 7:00 AM Saturday morning for a Saturday matinee against Lincoln, and after the Patriots didn’t play on Friday, it would show with some slow play by the Govs. Lincoln would take the match 25-10, 25-13 and 25-8. The Govs had just 12 kills in match led by Ally Keyes with four and Eads with three. Lincoln’s Ella Smith had six kills in the third set to conclude with a match high 11 Evelynn Carney had 10 as the Patriots had 40 overall.
The Governors drop to 1-16 on the season and will have its final road game of the regular season on Tuesday as the Govs take on the Aberdeen Central Golden Eagles. Coverage begins around 6:00 with a 6:30 first serve on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler on the call.
