The Pierre Governor tennis team will be working on finishing in place matches on Friday in the final day of the 2026 Class AA state tournament in Rapid City.
In singles matches, five of the six flights are still battling in each bracket as three of the five flights will be looking for a fifth place finish. Adrian Hand in flight three would win her first round match as the higher seed as the six seed will open the day in the fifth place semifinals after falling to the three seed. In flight four and six, Avery Schwartz and Emma Barnett, both 10 seeds would upset the seven seed and reach the state quarterfinals. Both would fall in the quarters, but no matter the outcome, they will finish higher than seeded for the Governors. Elise Bowers in flight one and Eliza Mayer in flight two would drop the first round match, but both would bounce back to get consolation quarterfinal wins to reach the consolation semifinals. Ainsley Dilges, the 12 seed in flight five would drop both matches to be eliminated.
In doubles, all three teams are still competing into day two as Hand and Gemma Stangeland in flight two would win their first round match as the eight seed had to battle against the top seed in the quarterfinals. Mayer and Bowers, the 11 seed would fall in the first match but come back to win in the consolation quarterfinals reaching the consolation semifinals as would Schwartz and Dilges in flight three.
As a team, Pierre is in ninth place at the end of the first day with 82 points. Pierre is 12 points back of Watertown and will look for fifth place and consolation championships throughout the day from eight of the nine flights. Stevens has a 10 point lead, 300-290 over Lincoln heading into the final day.
