PIERRE, (KCCR) — There is limited change this week to the U-S Drought Monitor for South Dakota, but what little change there is is good change. Statewide, drought-free and abnormally dry area are unchanged at 15 and 84-percent respectively. Moderate drought fell one-percent this with severe drought down one-and-a-half percent. Minimal extreme drought remains in the far northwest corner of Harding County along the North Dakota border. The biggest change in central South Dakota is in Ziebach County where severe drought was eliminated; falling from six-percent to zero. The county remains under 100-percent moderate drought. Reduction in severe drought was also seen in neighboring Dewey County. Dewey County was 95-percent under severe drought last week. It’s now at 52-percent in the central and eastern parts of the county. All of Potter County is under severe drought. Drought reductions were also seen this week in McPherson, Campbell, Walworth and Edmunds County.
