(Highmore, SD) – The Sully Buttes Chargers would fall in a tough four set match on Tuesday to Highmore-Harrold 25-16, 24-26, 25-12, and 25-23. With the loss the Chargers fall to 1-17 on the season with the ability to take the rest of the week off before hosting Stanley County next Tuesday to start a busy week.
Aces were a factor in the loss for the Chargers seeing the Pirates earn 20 aces in the match. Eight would come from the first set and Sully Buttes had no answer for the hot start for Highmore-Harrold. However, the second set say a nine point run for Sully Buttes were trailing 24-17, to secure a 26-24 second set with Tomi White capturing her three kills in the second set. Sully Buttes would also have two aces in the second set to force a fourth set.
Highmore-Harrold got back to their ways in the third set with aces again being the deal breaker for the Chargers, and Sully Buttes couldn’t produce any offense falling 25-12. The fourth set was a hard fought one. The Chargers would lead 12-6, but a lengthy rally by the Pirates would tie things up at 14-14. A back-and-forth battle saw Highmore-Harrold lead 23-21 and Sully Buttes would tie it at 23. But the a violation and ace spoiled a fifth and decisive set for the Chargers as the match ended on a Pirates ace.
The Pirates unofficially finished with 28 kills in the match while and having 21 aces. The Chargers would finish with six kills and three aces. Sully Buttes drops to 1-17 on the season with their next match being at home next Tuesday against Stanley County. Wyatt Burichka will have the call on Country 95.3 with first-serve set for 7:45 p.m.
