PIERRE, (KCCR) — A Murdo man has been sentenced on federal child pornography charges. U-S Attorney Ron Parsons says 31 year-old Tyree Yellow Elk was sentenced by U-S District Judge Eric Schulte to 15 years in federal prison on a charge of Possession of Child Pornography. Yellow Elk was indicted by a federal grand jury on the charge in February. He pleaded guilty in late June. Parsons says the case goes back to 2017, when Yellow Elk was first convicted in federal court of a similar Possession of Child Pornography charge. He was sentenced to seven years in that case. In October of last year, Yellow Elk was living in Murdo on supervised release from the 2017 conviction. That’s when law enforcement searched his home and seized a mobile device that contained thousands of images and videos of child sexual assault materials. Yellow Elk was immediately taken by the U-S Marshals Service into custody following the sentencing.
