The Pierre Governor soccer teams would open up the playoffs on Tuesday with the Governor girls winning 5-0 over Rapid City Central at home while the Governor boys would fall 6-0 on the road to Watertown.
In the 2-15 matchup, the Governor boys would give up four first half goals and the Watertown Arrows would flex its muscle showing why they are the two seed in the playoffs. Roger Carranza would have a hat trick as he would start the game with the first goal and then score both second half goals, including the first of the second half 29 seconds into the half. Isaac Thorson, Xane Fligge and Luke McLaughlin all scored for the Arrows as they had 20 shots and Carter Templeton would make seven saves in net. The Governors would finish with 10 shots and three on target as the Govs will finish the season at 3-7-4 while Watertown improves to 14-0-1 and will take on the seventh seed Spearfish in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
For the girls game, Pierre had just a 1-0 lead at the end of the first half, but would power through the second half to the 5-0 win. Aubrey Fischer would get the scoring started in the 15th minute before scoring three straight in the second half for a four goal performance to lead the Governors in the win. Myah Fravel had a PK goal to finish off the scoring in the final six minutes of the game. Cameron Larson would have two assists as Emlyn Swanson had three saves in her eighth shutout of the season. Pierre advances to take on the Brookings Bobcats who beat Brandon Valley in PKs to advance.
