The Pierre Governor golf team is in a good spot to finish in the top five of teams after the first day of the 2026 AA golf state tournament as the Govs are tied for ninth heading into the final day.
As a team, Pierre would shoot 28 over par, 312 in the first day tying Roosevelt for ninth place, staying four shots better than Brookings in 11th. In front of them, the Govs are only five shots back of fifth place with Jefferson and Watertown both 23 over par on day one. Lincoln holds the team lead at eight over par, 292, four shots better than Harrisburg, Brandon Valley and O’Gorman.
Individually, Tate Stoeser would lead the Governors after the first day with a five over par, 76. Stoeser would have an eagle on the par 5 third hole as he tied for 22nd. Beckham McPeck would be two shots behind him at seven over par, 78 as he birdied hole three. Caleb Hutton and Matthew Eberhard would both be eight over par, 79 as Eberhard would have two birdies on day one, hole three and par 3 hole 12. As Coach Tiffany Benham wanted to have four scorers in the 70s, she got four scorers in the 70s. Rigley Kulesa and Hudson Prunty weren’t far back either at 12 over par, 83. Drew Simon of O’Gorman, Asher Dannenbring of Mitchell and Jalen Dwire of Harrisburg are the clubhouse leaders after day one, all one under par, 70 while four more are even par, one shot back of the lead. Stoeser finds himself six shots back heading into day two.
