(Onida, SD) – The Sully Buttes Chargers moved to 6-0 on the season after a 34-14 win over Herreid/Selby Areaon Friday. The Chargers moved to 6-0 on the season and will have a big game Friday night against Timber Lake at home.
Sully Buttes strikes first on the opening drive on a 13 play drive that was capped off by an Easton Moore touchdown run from one yard out. The Chargers would take six minutes and 31 seconds off the clock on the opening drive. Sully Buttes scored against with 1:15 left to go in the first. After a 52 yard run by Zach Weinheimer, Moore would connect with AJ Oliver from eight yards out. The Chargers took a 16-0 lead going into the second quarter. The Chargers would add one more score in the first half. Moore would throw his second touchdown of the game to Tucker Gruis from three yards out, but the two point try would fail. The Sully Buttes defense would shut out the Wolverines only holding them to 18 yards of total offense.
Herreid/Selby would break the goose egg off the scoreboard one an eight yard touchdown run from Kaden Russel. While it was the only score in the third quarter, Sully Buttes would start the fourth quarter getting a 10 yard touchdown connection from Moore to Gruis for the second time of the night. The Wolverines added their final score of the game with another Kaden Russell scoring from 28 yards out. The Chargers would put the dagger in any comeback attempt with Moore connecting with Hudson Barber for 48 yards to seal the 34-14 win.
The last time the Chargers were victorious against the Wolverines, the Chargers would have a deep playoff run including a trip to the Dakota Dome where the Chargers would have the title of state champions. While the 2026 campaign isn’t over and there is plenty of work, the Chargers are now 6-0 on the season and will have a big test on Friday against Timber Lake who are also 6-0. The game is in Onida and will be senior night at 7 p.m. Wyatt Burichka will have the call on Country 95.3 F.M. and Country 95.3 Sports with coverage beginning at 6:30 p.m.
