PIERRE, (KCCR) — There is significant reduction in drought conditions across South Dakota this week. Statewide, no drought areas increased five-percent with abnormally dry areas fell five-percent. Moderate drought is down two-percent and severe drought 14-percent. There is a minor reduction extreme drought. In central South Dakota, an area of extreme drought in Dewey, Potter and Sully Counties is gone. In Jones County, moderate drought was eliminated this week with abnormally dry falling 63-percent and drought-free growing by that same margin. Severe drought was eliminated from Haakon County, but the county remains in 98-percent moderate drought. Moderate decreased 39-percent last week in Jackson County to 60-percent. In Hughes County abnormally dry grew 23-percent while drought-free areas fell to 68-percent from 91 the week before. In Stanley County there was a 10 swing decreasing abnormally dry and increase drought-free.
