In a low scoring defensive slugfest, the Stanley County Buffaloes would hold on to defeat the Gregory Gorillas 24-8 Friday night as the Buffs pick up its second win of the season.
About midway in the first quarter, a redirected screen pass would be set up for Jace Hand as Bryant Zeeb would Hand for a 39 yard touchdown pass and the Buffaloes would take the 6-0 lead after a failed conversion. Gregory struggled to get the offense going against the Stanley County defense, and it would take a tipped pass which was nearly intercepted by Stanley County would give them their lone score of the night and an 8-6 lead at the break. Witt Myers would get the wildcat snap and score from two yards out in the third quarter to give the Buffs a 12-8 advantage after another failed two point conversion. The Stanley County offense struggled to hold on to the football, but the defense would pitch the shutout in the second half. Jack Deal would score on fourth and goal from the five as Zeeb would hit Deal on the slant route and give the Buffs the 12 point advantage at 18-8. Zeeb would put the final touches on the win with a QB keeper in the red zone to make it 24-8. The Buffs did finish at 0-4 in two point conversions but it didn’t matter in this one as the Buffs defense shut the door for the final 11 minutes to get the win over Gregory to move to 2-4 on the year while the Gorillas fall to 1-5.
